WELCOME TO Real Life of Lulu

Where Culinary Magic Happens!

Meet Heidi

Hello! My name is Heidi, aka Lulu, and I started this blog in July of 2018. I have been married since 2006 to my husband, Kevin, and we have three children. J is our son who’s 14, H is our daughter who’s 11, and JT is our 6-year-old son. We also have a dog and a cat. I am a second-grade teacher in Spokane, Washington (my hometown).

My hobbies include cake decorating, baking, spending time with family, and writing (of course!). We also like to try out new restaurants in town and when we travel. My husband is a foodie so he is very adventurous with his taste buds!

I have been featured on MSN, the AP Wire, The Chicago Daily Chronicle, The Washington Times, and The Seattle Times. I also write for the blog, Food Drink Life. I share recipes and kitchen tips as well as current food trends.

I love to try out recipes that were handed down from my grandmother and grandfather. Both were phenomenal cooks. I never met my grandma as she passed away ten years before I was born, but I was told that she had no sense of smell but could cook and bake like no one else. She helped teach women how to cook with electric stoves when they first came out. My grandpa made up or modified a lot of recipes and those have been passed down for our family to try.

I am on a mission to bring back traditional cooking and baking. Recipes from previous generations should not be forgotten.

Through my extensive vintage cookbook collection, I am re-creating and reviving recipes that might otherwise have been forgotten. I occasionally post newer recipes, too, especially if I think my grandma or grandpa would have liked them.

But Real Life of Lulu is more than just recipes. It’s a place for food enthusiasts to gather and share their kitchen triumphs and new discoveries (whether from old cookbooks or new). Ask questions, share your wins, and encourage each other.
