Helpful Tips for Making Old-Fashioned Pecan Cake Bars

  • Place the topping on the bars in small chunks and let it warm up before spreading. It is okay if the bars are thin. They are more like soft cookies than cake.
  • Chop the pecans into very small pieces for easier spreading.
  • Check on the bars often when completing the final step in the broiler, otherwise, they will burn. I used my oven light so I could pull them out as soon as the topping started bubbling.
